Ultraportabilty is becoming a huge priority for laptop users everywhere. Now, Lenovo adds a new ThinkPad to the group of highly portable computers.
With its 13.3-inch screen and weighing in at just 3¼ lbs, it is nearly as thin and light as Apple’s MacBook. However, the ThinkPad makes fewer compromises than the Air does when it comes to features, although performance suffers slightly for certain tasks.
The standard configuration includes a 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 64GB solid-state drive, integrated webcam, microphone, stereo speakers, and fingerprint reader. Our tested model also included a built-in DVD burner, 2GB of RAM, gigabit Ethernet, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Further options are available for mobile broadband or wireless USB.
Many smaller laptops sacrifice ergonomics for portability, but not with the ThinkPad. With its full-sized keyboard and large display, it offers all the comfort of a full sized laptop. The solid-state drive should also improve durability and protect against accidental bumps during travels. Unfortunately, it lacks a modem, FireWire port, PC/ExpressCard slot, and a memory card reader – which most laptops offer.
In addition the ThinkPad has a relatively low battery life compared to the Air, along with limited storage space.
In conclusion, if portability takes precedence over performance, then the ThinkPad or MacBook are the laptops for you. Go with ThinkPad if you’re running Windows and the MacBook if you use the Macintosh operating system.

Working from home sounds like everyone’s dream job. No more working nine to five, or having to ask permission to take time of for a child’s school event. However, working from home can have it’s challenges as well. There are ways of being able to balance home life with your home business with a little planning.
An essential factor of having a home based business is establishing a structure. Yes, it is nice to not have to be at the office by eight. However, if you don’t structure your home work schedule you’ll run the risk of getting behind in your work. Set up hours when you will only be available for work. This way family and friends know that just because you are home doesn’t mean you are available to chat on the phone.
On that note, just because you work from home does not mean that now you have more time to tend to the kids or the housework. If you start to feel yourself get overwhelmed with running your own company, and the household chores, get help. Hire a nanny or a housekeeper to keep things in line while you are working. This way the children are still close by, and you are getting your work done!
Just like it’s a challenge to know when to turn away from personal issues like cleaning the house, it can also be a challenge to “leave work” when you work from home. Remember that it is just as important to take time away from work to spend with your family as it is to take time away from family to spend on work. That may be one of the major reasons you started your own home business to begin with. So remember to shut off the computer every once in a while and spend some time with the kids.
A home business is just like any other business in which communication is extremely important. With that in mind, what better way to communicate than via fax, better yet, email fax. GoFaxer can deliver your faxes directly to your email box. It’s as simple as that. With this convenient service, you can manage all of your faxes online! Contact GoFaxer today for more information.

We’ve all experienced this scenario. You’re at work trying to resolve a project issue with another co-worker. However, you sit on opposite sides of the office from each other. So, when a question arises, you either have to call, or leave your desk to go to the other end of the office. While on the phone, clients are trying to reach you, but are being redirected to your voicemail because you are tied up on the phone. Or, they are being directed to voicemail because you are at the other end of the office away from your desk. This can be a very frustrating situation, one in which instant office messaging could resolve.
More and more employers are turning to instant office messaging to resolve some of these issues along with many others. Instant office messaging allows users to send and receive secure instant messages among office coworkers. This way employees can communicate across the office while leaving the phone lines open, which they will also be there to answer as well.
Instant office messaging also comes in handy while on a phone call. If a client calls with questions, and you need to look at a file in order to be able to answer their questions, you can quickly instant message another employee and ask for the file to be brought to you instead of putting the client on hold.
Most of these programs are very simple to install, and are much faster and efficient than phone calls or emails.
GoFaxer can also offer many more helpful solutions to make your office run more efficiently, such as email fax. Contact GoFaxer today for more information.

Pope Benedict, in an effort to reach out to young Catholics, will be sending out thousands of text messages to individual’s mobile phones during the World Youth Day in Sydney in July. The Pope hopes this may keep him better connected with the younger crowd.
The messages will contain phrases of inspiration and hope. A digital wall will even be in place at various event sites, along with a Facebook like networking Web site for young Catholics.
“We wanted to make WYD08 a unique experience by using new ways to connect with today’s tech-savvy youth,” Bishop Anthony Fisher said in a statement on Wednesday.
Telstra, and Australian telecoms firm, will be providing voice, data, mobile, broadband and broadcast services for the event. They will also be providing the digital walls at event sites. Telstra plans to recruit 8,000 volunteers, 2,000 clergy, 3,000 media and an estimated 225,000 pilgrims to assist at more than 700 locations around Sydney.
The Catholic Church said it decided to use technology to connect to the estimated 225,000 young Catholics expected to attend the World Youth Day (WYD) celebrations that start on July 15.

Making the transition from LAN to VOIP can be a tricky one, particularly within a business. But the initial inconveniences are well worth the savings VOIP can offer. VOIP can be especially cost efficient if your employees are prone to making domestic long distance calls or international calls. VOIP has some convenient features as well, like sending voice mail messages to your email box. Here are a few suggestions to make your LAN to VOIP transition a little smoother.
Stage it out
Your business lines are extremely important, and no business can afford time without telephone communication. Unfortunately, with all new services there is the risk of initial complications. That is why it is a good idea to move over just a few lines in the very beginning. If all goes well with the starter lines, then proceed to move the remaining lines over as well.
Plan ahead!
Since VOIP is essentially telephone over the internet, your service can be interrupted due to an interruption in internet connectivity. Redundant connections (which can also be aggregated to provide more bandwidth) will prevent loss of your phone service if one ISP should experience downtime. Your VOIP server required power, so you should also prepare for power outages. Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and/or backup generators can be used to prevent any problems with power outages.
Be ware of legal, compliance, and safety issues
If you are in a regulated industry, compliance requirements for your VOIP network is the same as it would be for your data network. Be sure to secure the privacy of client data. There is also the issue of 9-1-1. The FCC requires that interconnected VoIP providers supply 9-1-1 services to their customers, along with obtaining your physical location so it can be associated with your number(s). Just be sure to contact your provider about any location changes you might make.
Another way to save money and provide more efficiency to your business is to contact GoFaxer about ways to receive your faxes online! Not only can your faxes be delivered directly to your email, but you’ll be saving money on fax machines, paper etc. Contact GoFaxer today for further details.

So you love the technical ends to your business. You love picking the right technologies. You’re going to be cutting edge—your entire team will have laptops with email and email fax. You’ll be fiscally smart, analyzing every expenditure, putting your money only into initiatives that make you money.
But don’t forget that there’s an emotional end to your business. It’s touchy feely. It’s warm fuzzies. It’s your brand. Does it get people excited? Does it have a buzz factor?
John Williams at Entrepreneur.com says:
“Research shows that reason and emotions differ in that reason generates conclusions but not necessarily actions, while emotions more frequently lead to actions. You can educate consumers on your product’s features, but without an emotional involvement of some kind, consumers may not attach values to those facts–at least not the values you may want them to attach.”
For example, you might have a retail store. Your staff may be excellently trained on how to communicate the features and benefits to your customers. They may execute this wonderfully.
But how does your store feel? What’s the vibe? Do your customers walk in and feel a need and a desire to buy something, regardless of the features and benefits.
These are all issues to consider as you develop your brand.

Angel investors are wealthy people who provide the needed capital for a business start-up. They do this for convertible debt or ownership equity. They invest their own money, not the money of others. This is different than venture capitalists that run professionally managed funds.
Believe it or not, now is a good time to seek angel investors. Why? Because studies show that start-ups actually do better during a recession. They can find supplies for their small business at a lower cost. This includes, labor, land and other products needed to build a business infrastructure.
If you’re looking to convince angel investors that your business is worth their money, make sure to point out the tech savvy, money and time saving email fax service that you use. They’ll be impressed by your desire to spend their money where it counts—on developing sales and cash, not on spending it frivolously on paper and expensive fax machines.
Look for investors who have a lot of cash, allowing them the freedom to lose a little in your business venture. It’s usually recommended that investors spend no more than 10% of their investment wealth on a start-up, meaning that they’ve got to have a lot more money than you need.

It used to be that workers were expected work strict hours. But now, employers are attempting to offer their employees greater flexibility. If you want to come in late and work late, that’s fine. If you want to come in early and leave early, that’s fine as well.
Technology like email, email fax, cell phones, and instant messaging allow employees to work from home when needed. This can be helpful for a working parent who might need to stay home with a sick child.
With the tech industry setting new corporate standards, many major companies allow casual dress all day every day. Gone is the flannel suit. Gone is the tie.
A smart worker can use these standards to their advantage. With everyone dressing casual, primping a little can go a long way to impress co-workers. Setting an earlier schedule for oneself can make you look on the ball and ready for action. And effective use of email and phone can make your clients feel as if you are always available for them, with a quick response and action at all times.
But this trend can also hurt employees with less personal discipline. A flexible work schedule might tempt someone to sleep in too often. It might tempt them to dress like they just came from the gym. So beware as you groom your career that you use the new current standards to your advantage and not your detriment.
