Email Fax: Cutting Fixed Expenses
I recently read a great article at Businessweek.com about the difference in start up costs for small businesses two decades ago. The writer, David E. Gumpert, explains all of the start up fees that they incurred 20 years ago creating a health newsletter business. What kills so many small businesseses like these are all of those darned fixed expenses that seem to be impossible to get around.
For example, this particular business had to purchase:
• Apple Macintosh Computers
• Laser Printer
• Photocopy and fax machines
• Phone system
• Rent for a small office
Gumpert Explains:
The fact of the matter is that your little start up can be run almost exclusively on your PC or laptop. Offices have gotten that small. A great example of this is fax technology. Notice that one of his major expenses with the health newsletter was a fax machine and service. But nowadays, you can use email fax to send any important faxes, all through the internet.
The fact of the matter is that there’s never been a better time in history to start your own small business.
