Email Fax: Time Management, pt. 2
As I mentioned in my last post, this is a discussion about managing your email inbox so you can take full advantage of email fax.
One thing I like to do is to clear out my email inbox before lunch. Email response is usually the management of immediate and reactive tasks. So I spend the morning on those tasks.
I basically respond to all of the emails I have and send the emails that I need to send. I do all of the immediate small tasks. I try to get my email count as small as possible in the inbox. And then after lunch I try to leave that inbox alone.
I spend the afternoon working on bigger more proactive projects. I usually monitor the inbox throughout the afternoon just to make sure that there isn’t some big emergency that I need to know about. But otherwise, I stay clear of sending emails and actually get some useful work done.
This is my way of getting things done. I don’t want too much of my day spent on reactive small tasks, but I also want to be perceived within my company as reliable and timely in my responses to their requests.
Whatever your way might be, as long as it works, go with it. Just remember this rule of thumb. Keep that inbox clear of clutter, and you won’t miss the important email or fax.
