When Email Gets Out of Control
Email is a wonderful tool. We don’t need memos anymore. We don’t need traditional mail anymore, at least not as often.
But it can also be your undoing. Do you ever have that co-worker who gets so many emails, and is so behind on reading them, that you don’t even bother sending him or her important updates through email anymore? Well, don’t be one of those co-workers, especially if you’re a leader in your business.
But leaders are the most likely to get bombarded with emails. So what is a person to do when they’re email is out of control.
The first thing that I highly recommend is this: Don’t send emails unless you have to. The less emails you send, the less you’ll receive. It’s a simple principle. So if you want less, don’t send as many.
Emails are great at sending documents and information. They’re even replacing traditional fax in the form of fax through email. Use it as a tool for speed and convenience in sending info for other’s reference. These emails won’t feel a necessity to respond and you’ll get less mail in your inbox.
But don’t use it for pushing your projects. If you want something pushed through, do it in person or at least over the phone. Don’t send an email.
I know these tips will keep your email inbox manageable and people will know they can rely on you.
