New technology comes at us a mile a minute, for our business and personal lives. Some of it is truly a blessing, and adds to our lives. Others can probably be ignored, due to non-necessity or lack of development. Below are a few of the latest technological advances that can bypassed for now.
Radio Frequency ID (RFID)
RFID an idea to make shopping, among other things, more efficient. With RFID, micriscopic RFID chips are placed on merchandise. Once you have went through the store and loaded up your cart, what is supposed to happen is that you push your cart through an electronic scanner (much like a metal detector), and the technology automatically creates a total for you. It is also supposed to instantaneously remove the items from the merchants inventory. So far, it has not worked very smoothly, and has been expensive for the few merchants who have tried it. This technology can be ignored until further advancement.
Open-Sourced Software
Just because this software is free doesn’t mean the set-up and everything else that goes along with it is. Spending time to customize this software to work for you is also a huge waste of time. Small businesses should stick to the off the shelf versions for now.
Windows XP
Unfortunately Windows XP will no longer be sold after June 30, 2008. Because of this, we might as well start focusing on Vista. Yes, it’s slower and it doesn’t work with all devices. But you’ll be able to see all of your invoices in 3-D! I guess that’s something, right?
One technology that cannot be ignored is online fax service. This technology offers the convenience of receiving all of your faxes via the interned. Only you will be able to see your personal faxes, and you’ll be able to more efficiently manage your important faxes through your email box. Contact GoFaxer today for more information.

You no longer need your computer to manage your online affairs. With today’s cell phones, PDA’s and other mobile devices it is easier than ever before to connect to the internet while on the go. As a result, an ever increasing amount of companies are taking advantage of the many benefits of wireless internet access.
Before wireless internet access became available, many business people had the “luxury” of toting their laptops with them everywhere. With today’s technology individuals are trading their hefty laptops for lightweight cell phones and other mobile devices. Not to say that laptops are no longer needed, they’re just not necessary if all you need to do is quickly check your email. Which brings me to the next benefit of wireless internet access, you can check your email anywhere! This is extremely beneficial for those business people on the go. If you’re not in the office much, or even more so for people who work sans office, using your cell phone to check your emails is the next best thing since sliced bread!

In the new trend of businesses trying to become more efficient, or possibly more eco-friendly, the effort to become paperless has increased. Still unsure if going paperless is for you, or even how to go about it? Listed below are a few benefits of going paperless, and how to work towards achieving that goal
The most obvious benefit would have to be the cost savings. The time it takes an employee to print and retrieve paper documents adds up tremendously over a years time. In addition, there is the cost of having to store all of those paper files.
Other benefits include increased security, better disaster recovery protection, environmental benefits and remote access for your important documents.
Don’t worry about all of your current files. One step towards going paperless is to choose a document imaging system. They include tools to help you convert paper records into electronic files. GoFaxer can also help you on your way to achieving a paperless office. By implementing an online fax service in your office you will no longer have to use paper to receive your faxes. All you need is an internet connection, and all of your faxes will be delivered to you via the internet. Contact GoFaxer today for more details.

The first thing I would do if I was creating a tech savvy, modern business, ready for the future, would be to sign up for a really great email fax service. The second thing I would do is create my own website. The third thing I’d do is create my own social network for whatever my marketing niche might be.
Whether you’re selling toilet paper or computer chips, there’s a group of people out their who are interested in this topic. You want these people discussing these issues online, with your company at the center of the discussion.
How do you do this? There’s a great new company called Ning. it allows you to create your own social network. In the past you’ve had social networks that allowed you to create your site. But now can create your own network.
Founded in 2004 by Gina Bianchini and Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of Netscape, it has become an enormous business, virally building on itself every day. It’s a solid company with a huge future. Don’t be surprised if in a few years they refer to Ning in the same way people mention Facebook and Google. It’s huge, and it could be huge for your company if you want a social network.

When the blue chips struggle, it’s definitely reason for pause for small businesses. Such was the case for General Electric, which reported 6% decline in first-quarter profits. They’re earnings were $4.3 billion, down from $4.57 a share.
So what does this mean for small businesses? Well, first off, it means that a recession is pretty much in the cards. I hate to say it, but it’s seeming pretty darned likely these days when every day there’s new bad news. This just adds to the pessimism.
I’ve discussed the many issues associated with preparing for a recession on here. But it’s probably worth repeating a few warnings.
The first and easiest advice I have to you and your small business is to cut costs wherever you can. These need to be intelligent cost cutting techniques that want cost you sales. Remember that the goal of all of this is increasing your profitability to shore up extra cash during the downturn. So don’t go hurting yourself in an effort to help yourself.
I’m talking about making intelligent cuts, like ditching the fax machine for an Internet based email fax service like GoFaxer. I’m talking about spending a little less on the office renovations. I’m talking about saving energy costs by switching to more efficient light bulbs. All of these savings will go to your bottom line and help you through this time.
