Here’s a number that is not hard to believe: approximately 4.2 million people are now working from home. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the number of people who work at home has grown again substantially over the last decade.
If you’ve made the leap and are working from home, or are soon hoping to work from home, here are some essential tools you’ll need to get started.
- Computer. Simply put, no office can function in this day and age without a computer. There are dozens of models to choose from, but perhaps the most convenient would be a laptop which can be brought to meetings when necessary, and even allow you to work outside when your kids are playing in the yard.
- Online Fax Service. With new technology that is available today, there is no need to run out and buy an expensive fax machine. All you need is a computer and internet connections, and you can send and receive online faxes. Not only will this save you money, but you can send and receive faxes from anywhere that you have an internet connection, whether it’s in your home office, or at a customer’s location.
- Paper shredder. In this day and age where security is such a concern, a paper shredder is also a good idea. You can use this to safely dispose of sensitive documents you no longer need.
Whether you run your own business, telecommute, or are an independent contractor, working from home has a number of advantages. Among them, having more flexibility, saving time and money by eliminating the commute, avoiding noise and distraction in the workplace, and being able to arrange work around family commitments.

If you run a home based business, or if you work for an employer but do so by telecommuting, then you understand first hand how space can become an issue in a home office. In many ways, a home office offers flexibility that the traditional workplace does not. However, for many people, this home office is converted from space once used for other purposes. If you don’t have a lot of extra room, you’ll likely balk at the idea of adding lots of equipment.
Fortunately, technology has advanced such that things such as actual fax machines are no longer necessary. Now you can send and receive faxes faster, easier, and more reliably than ever before with web-based faxing by GoFaxer. Our internet fax product frees you from extra phone lines, fax machines, and even software, not to mention cost and time. You’ll also be using far less paper, since you only print the faxes that you want to, leaving others in their electronic format for easy access.
Internet fax is an exciting development that makes life much, much easier for anyone, whether or not you work at home. Even central offices have made the switch. Try GoFaxer’s risk free trial to see how well this service works.

Working from home sounds like everyone’s dream job. No more working nine to five, or having to ask permission to take time of for a child’s school event. However, working from home can have it’s challenges as well. There are ways of being able to balance home life with your home business with a little planning.
An essential factor of having a home based business is establishing a structure. Yes, it is nice to not have to be at the office by eight. However, if you don’t structure your home work schedule you’ll run the risk of getting behind in your work. Set up hours when you will only be available for work. This way family and friends know that just because you are home doesn’t mean you are available to chat on the phone.
On that note, just because you work from home does not mean that now you have more time to tend to the kids or the housework. If you start to feel yourself get overwhelmed with running your own company, and the household chores, get help. Hire a nanny or a housekeeper to keep things in line while you are working. This way the children are still close by, and you are getting your work done!
Just like it’s a challenge to know when to turn away from personal issues like cleaning the house, it can also be a challenge to “leave work” when you work from home. Remember that it is just as important to take time away from work to spend with your family as it is to take time away from family to spend on work. That may be one of the major reasons you started your own home business to begin with. So remember to shut off the computer every once in a while and spend some time with the kids.
A home business is just like any other business in which communication is extremely important. With that in mind, what better way to communicate than via fax, better yet, email fax. GoFaxer can deliver your faxes directly to your email box. It’s as simple as that. With this convenient service, you can manage all of your faxes online! Contact GoFaxer today for more information.

It is a tempting prospect: taking advantage of the new, technology-based offerings of the economy to start your own home-based business. Doing so frees you of ties to the corporate world and gives you the power to work from the comfort of your own home. Never before in history has such a plan been so feasible for so many American workers.
However, taking on this challenge is a daunting task. Besides numerous legal and accoutning wranglings, the new entrepeneur must consider the logistics of setting up and maintaining a home office. Creating a home office requires considerable investment in equipmement, space, and resources. Before proceeding with constructing a home office, you should consider what equipment and services you will need.
GoFaxer knows home offices require faxing capability. When purchasing a full-blown fax machine, along with a nasty supplemental charge for monthly phone service, is not within your budget, you should consider GoFaxer’s online service. It is made for home-based businesses seeking to provide fax services for clients without incurring the physical space and financial constraints of a traditional fax machine.
