I don’t like paper. I don’t like the way it feels on my fingers. I don’t like the ink smudging into my pores. One of the worst jobs I ever had was as an administrative assistant for an accountant. He’d bring in big rolling files that I had to organize. I felt compelled to wash my hands every hour to get the dirt of the paper and ink off my dry, often paper-cut, hands. But after washing them, I’d be right back to the same dirty business of touching paper. Yuck!
Faxes are even worse. They come as a grimy little gift from someone that I rarely care about. When was the last time you received a love letter by fax? Not a common occurrence. Consequently, I’ve been thrilled to learn that traditional faxing, with paper and machines, is going the way of the do-do bird.
We now use email fax in our office. Every time I get a fax from a business associate it comes in the form of a pdf attachment in an email. For a person who prefers everything clean, organized, electronic, and sterilized this has been a wonderful innovation for my sensibilities. Not to mention the advantage it’s had with my skin on my hands.
